Review

In 2018, SodaStream chose us as its technology partner as part of a major IT initiative to transition to cloud-based systems. We worked on the e-commerce side, migrating from Magento to Shopify Plus, with the goal of growing the direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales channel. Since then, we’ve developed 16 SodaStream websites around the world, and we continue to develop and support them as SodaStream expands globally.

About SodaStream

An Israeli brand that has become a global player in more than 45 countries.

SodaStream is an Israeli company that makes home appliances for preparing carbonated drinks and flavored syrups. Its products are popular and well-known around the world, and the brand dominates the global market. After being acquired by PepsiCo, SodaStream continued to expand its operations to more than 45 countries, using advanced technologies and innovative marketing methods.

Traditionally, it has been a B2B business, but in recent years the company has also significantly integrated direct-to-consumer sales into its business strategy.

Challenges

A previous platform that slowed growth.

  • Global expansion: On the previous platform, building a website for a new market was an intensive project, and maintaining each site separately added a significant burden.
  • Efficient customer support processes: A single system was needed to handle inquiries and manage customer service across many countries from one place.
  • Code maintenance and rapid updates: The ability to make quick branding updates across markets worldwide was critical.
  • Cloud-based operations: SodaStream wanted to avoid managing security, updates, and servers.
Solutions

One codebase, a Zendesk app, and solutions for every market.

SodaStream partnered with us, a small Shopify agency—and the first in Israel.

  • Global expansion: A unified codebase for the Shopify Plus theme maintains a consistent brand experience across all markets. Today, we manage 14 languages, including right-to-left writing, within the same codebase, using tools that let us roll out changes across all sites overnight.
  • Customer service system integration: We developed a custom app to seamlessly connect Zendesk and Shopify, giving support agents access to orders and customer information from a single system, with multilingual support.
  • Maintenance and updates across markets: Managing all sites from one place, alongside solutions tailored to each market, for efficient maintenance and flexibility to accommodate local changes.
Results

Approximately 20% of revenue comes from direct-to-consumer sales.

SodaStream significantly streamlined its global e-commerce operations and improved customer service. Today, direct-to-consumer sales account for approximately 20% of the company’s total revenue, with millions of customers across the 16 websites we developed and continue to maintain.

Our expertise in Shopify Plus has made us a strategic partner, not just a provider—combining global scale with regional flexibility.
